1.0 out of 5 stars Loved it... until it caught fire, May 28, 2013
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: BESTK Wall charging station power strip usb surge protector w/ 6 AC outles+4 usb ports 2.1A 1A+nightlight+iphone charging dock MRJ1870 (Electronics)
I purchased four of these in October, and as such, mine probably have a few months more usage than most of the reviewers on here. I implore anyone reading this to throw these things in the trash immediately before they put their homes and families at risk. With nothing else plugged in, and nothing else even on the same circuit from the breaker box, one of these shot out an intensely hot and forceful flame from the grounding receptacle of one of the plugs. Burned my thumb and my sweater pretty good. Took it apart, and it looks like it could have been a burst capacitor. Feel free to check out the pictures. I don't care one iota about defect rates, if one unit did it, any of them could do the same. Furthermore, I've since learned that my fire insurance wouldn't have covered a fire caused by an electronics product that lacked safety testing. I loved these things, but all four have now been replaced with Belkin's version. "Disappointed" woul d be an understatement.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm loving it!, October 12, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: BESTK Wall charging station power strip usb surge protector w/ 6 AC outles+4 usb ports 2.1A 1A+nightlight+iphone charging dock MRJ1870 (Electronics)
I've been looking for something similar to this for quite a while. I've had my eyes on the "Monster outlet to go" and similar Belkin products; unfortunately, their usb ports didn't provide enough power to charge tablets. I actually saw this while purchasing the Bestek AC to DC converter for a cooler. After examining all of the photos, it didn't take me long to make the purchase even though no one have reviewed this product.

I like the idea that this power station, surge protector, or whatever you want to call it, has 4 usb ports and they're at different amps and a dock for an iPhone. I can charge my iPhone, an external battery, and my tablet right there and still have room for more. Besides that, I like how the outlets are facing to the sides (left and right) instead of sticking out from the middle because this way the cables look a lot more organized. So far, this charging station already replaced 3 electronic charging wall plugs and I don't have to constantly remove them when I need to plug in my laptop charger or anything else. The light was an extra and it has 2 brightness levels. They can be very bright. This sure can be used as a night light if it is kept by your bed where pushing it on and off isn't a hassle.

For the tablet, I'm using it to charge my Samsung galaxy tab with an additional cable I received that helps the galaxy tab recognize the current as 2.0. I've tested this power station and it charges an iPad 3 from the 2.1A usb ports, iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS from the dock.

Overall, I've received today it for less than 10 hours and I'm already loving it. I can definitely stowaway my other wall plugs. So far so good because all usb ports and outlets have power coming out of them. I hope this thing will last for a very long time because this looks like a keeper for me. It would be nice is BESTEK can add some sort of warranty to their products. Hopefully, they're read ing this and will offer some sort of warranty like 6 months to a year or something to ensure customers about their product quality in the future. Today's the first day I'm using this. I'll update this review if something goes wrong. If you don't see an update, then that means it's still goooood!

3.0 out of 5 stars Usable but Brightly annoying!, January 31, 2013
By
This review is from: BESTK Wall charging station power strip usb surge protector w/ 6 AC outles+4 usb ports 2.1A 1A+nightlight+iphone charging dock MRJ1870 (Electronics)
This review is for BESTEK USB Wall Charging Station which will not show as "Amazon verified purchase" as my coworker got this for me. That said, he always had this issue of running out of wall sockets for his plethora of gadgets that he has which includes various tablets PCs, Cellphones, iPod's, Bluetooth headsets, Hands-free car speakerphone just to name a few. He requested me to come up with a solution for him wherein he could forget all those unique chargers that comes with his gadgets and just use one for charging. I told him - oh Yeah! I can build one for you but it will look like a Frankenstein monster with tentacles not to mention shock and fire hazard that comes along with a version 1 of a "home-brew" project.

Having said, I started researching products that is already out there on the market and this one from BESTEK stood out in the crowd. Why? because it seemed perfectly engineered for this specific charging purposes that I had in my mind for my coworker for all those USB based gadgets out there and also because there is so many positive reviews on it on Amazon that prompted me to give this one a try before I start to build my Frankenstein monster for him.

When I suggested him to buy this gizmo first and give it a try. He placed order for two of these units and to both our expectations it sure seems a pretty good contraption for charging those plethora of gadgets that we both have (albeit only to some extent read below) but at the same time there are some annoyances too for me to report in this review.

Observations:
-------------
As you may notice. There are total of six 110v A/C outlets on this unit to begin with which itself is a big plus as this device will take up two wall sockets to install reliably and in-turn give 6 outlets w hich I consider a good thing as it is not eating up valuable wall sockets.

Next it has four illuminated USB ports two marked as 1A and the other two 2.1A. I attempted plugging in all the devices that we have and found it works for most USB based gadgets that needs charging. But to our dismay the Samsung Galaxy tablet 10.1 failed to charge on the 2.1A USB port.

Samsung Galaxy tablet (running Android 3.2 OS) recognized it as a "MTP device" and started scanning for media??? - This seemed very strange as it did not charge the device and there was a X on the battery charging icon. Shutting down the Galaxy tablet and plugging into this charger again does make you feel that it is charging it as the Battery charging Logo comes on the tablet but I do not think proper handshake takes place for charging the battery as it sits there with the Battery logo but never really seem to charge it.

Annoyances:
------------
IMHO, The BESTEK logo design s eems to have gotten utmost importance by the manufacturer in the product as it shines bright blue and is a major annoyance of this product. One could put a black electrical tape around it but it would not be aesthetically pleasing. So I opened the unit to see if I can disable those lights internally. BTW, for electronically inclined readers of this review there are about QTY 5 of bright surface mount LEDs on the circuit board inside that is intended to light up the BESTEK logo which seemed like an overkill. I did manage to disable them permanently by de-soldering them off the circuit board and also put a black electrical tape to the underside of the BESTEK logo so that it does not stand out staring at you.

Other notes:
------------
When I opened unit to get rid of the BESTEK Logo LEDs I noticed that The A/C outlets are merely connected together in parallel as it it were some sort of extension cord. This clearly tells me not to consider this being a surg e protected type of AC socket as I did not find anything in-terms of coils or RF suppressors in that circuit at all.

The charger circuit itself is a "beefier" Switch mode power-supply and share the four USB ports out of one 5V 5.2A DC power source but there are some current limiting circuits to provide adequate voltage and current to the USB ports and iPod connector.

EDIT: AUG 08, 2013
-------------------
Thanks to some user feedback, BESTEK has re-designed this WALL charging station and made it even better. It is no longer Brightly annoying and now includes full surge protection.

The product description on Amazon seems to have been updated as well with this information. While I have personally not seen it I trust that Amazon community feedback is correct. If anyone still sees Blue Bright LED illuminating the BESTEK logo please comment.

Bottom-line:
------------
For the price you do get a decent quality charger for most of your USB based devices and the charging current of 2.1A... Read more
